Well that formula doesn't need a solution, I was just saying in general problems that have to use that function and the q function are complicated and annoying. I took the test, I think I probably got in the 50's somewhere barring a curve and my multiple choice guessing skillz don't pay off, but with some luck and credit for partial problems / work then I could MAYBE hit the 60's. This is ok with me. If I get a 50 that should be negligible if I don't fuck up any more tests.

Calculus is the study of infinitesimals, or smooth curves. The basic idea behind calculus is that you break some smooth thing into tiny infinitesimal parts to understand it.

Example: suppose you have a car driving down the road. The cars position increases smoothly. Suppose you graphed your car's position vs time. Let's say you get an image like this:

Now suppose you wanted to figure out the cars speed at any given point. Speed is = change in position / change in time. So if you travel two meters in two seconds, you are traveling at 1 meter/second. To find the speed at any given point, you would take the derivative. The derivative is a slope at an extremely tiny portion of the curve, approaching an exact point.

The definition of derivative is as follows:

lim (f(x+h) - f(x))/h

h -> 0

So basically you're taking an extremely small interval in f(x) and dividing it by a small interval in x.

d/dx (f(x) gives you the derivative.
