Why

I get a car so i can drive it my damn self, not sit there while someone/something else does it for me. Taxis exist for that.

Re: self-driving tesla in production

Gosh wow! Sharpie, I can't believe that you don't want a magical zippy car! We need to flash images and soundbites from TED Talks into your brain, in order to show you the error of your ways! With enough optimism and can-do spirit, you too can actualize your revenge against those mean jocks through another techno-fix! Just add a non-existent infrastructure and space-rock harvesters, and your dream of a helipad for every house could become a reality.

if this technology becomes cheap enough it'll make taxis obsolete because you won't have to pay people to drive them. And I can't imagine a car that self drives won't also have a mode where a human can drive it too (so you can still drive your car some, but you don't have to if you're tired/drunk!).

I personally hate driving. Fucking racks my nerves. I welcome self driving cars wholeheartedly. :D

Re: self-driving tesla in production

Would people feel safe in driverless taxis at first, though?

a.

Re: self-driving tesla in production

Actually, I would not mind self driving cars. They would allow me to drink and drive, since I am not the one driving.

Hindsight is always 20/20.

When in doubt, move north. God bless suomi.

Re: self-driving tesla in production

On major highways a system might take over the car to eliminate traffic and accidents

Re: self-driving tesla in production

I've never actually driven, but I only enjoy driving games where you can flagrantly disregard the laws which promote personal safety, so I doubt I'd particularly enjoy doing things by the book.

the point of driving is to get to places you normally can't on bicycle or foot or by local public transport
in this way it provides more freedom of movement and therefore more opportunities
