Police depts are too much of the buddy-buddy boys club thing where their repressed homosexual urges create a situation of hypermachosim and lying.
We be hatin on unions for teachers and stuff, but the cop unions are literally the core of everything wrong with police. Can't fire em without union bitching about it and the union itself doesn't do jackshit to keep the people it represents from acting like dumb fucks(as was done in old-school unions).
-"People of the same trade seldom meet together even for merriment and diversion but the conversation ends at a conspiracy against the public."
Funny thing. There was some student worker's union that is part of the AFL-CIO that was claiming power house unions like the International Union of Police Associations had no business being in the AFL-CIO because the police were not in solidarity with the workers. Of course, the president of the IUPA dismissed it as "calling for the abolition of police" and no one lost their charter.
Actually, I have NO PROBLEM with police officers or any other worker for that matter organizing or anyone getting better treatment as human beings. No one wants to work a job where you could be fired just for retarded shit. Most of us have worked places where you have owners with God complexes who treat people like shit because those workers can't really do much else without taking huge pay cuts or long retraining/ education at huge hardship.
Though, even in non police unions, I have seen folks get away with stuff that really is not right. Like a Department of Veteran's Affairs orderly talking on her cell phone while using a lift to transfer a patient and dropping him on the floor breaking his hip. She got off because there was no piece of paper in her file saying she had been prperly "trained" to know she should not TALK ON HER DAMN PHONE WHILE LIFTING A PATIENT!! Grrrr...
My issues with police unions are the same with any union.
Unions primary goal is Increased membership. They are a business and lobby like a business. Expansion of prisons and laws that fill this up, etc. This is the reason the IUPA, the FoP, etc usually approve harsher penalties for things. Unions push for these things in ANY field that brings more members but may not be good for everyone else. Or even the well being of the industry at times.
If unions really wanted to help the common man, they would take out temp agencies or be an alternative to them. Kind of like the Longshoreman's union or the Electrician's union and actually help train. Not just take folks already there, take their money.
