Agree. Moon would probably be a mining settlement at best. Maybe a future manufacturing location. I'm sure it'll be easier to build large ships on the moon and launch em from there for example.

Moon is still a lot closer than Mars.

Basically an exaggeration of this thread. they are saying fairly obvious things about how it costs too much money and how living on mars sucks, but that's not really the point of going there.

Hey, I never said anything about the cost, I'm just being realistic. This was mostly a "take that" to the sci-fi tropes.  Will we ever travel to other stars? Possibly. Will we colonize other planets? Possibly, but we have a lot of work to do.

Not in our lifetime...maybe.

We've entered an era where we're making a shitload of technological advances pretty fast. Then again we might just end up smacking into a tech-wall that takes quite some time to climb before. That thing we finally discover that'll usher us into a whole new era.

Maybe like exotic matter or something. Or something quantum something.
