Alt-right doesn't really exist. It is a buzzword to describe a generalized group with no structure, so the "group" or "movement" simply doesn't exist. It's like how the media says "Anonymous" hacked something, even though it pretty much isn't an actual group since anyone can be part of it and there is no organization. Alt-right could mean white supremacists or it could simply mean supporting Donald Trump (who is NOT a white supremacist by the way), or I've even seen it be attributed to conservatives who don't like political correctness or multiculturalism. I could be an alt-right since I dislike political correctness and oppose illegal immigration, according to these clueless "reporters" or "liberals" who love the term.

But liberals are whiny, bitchy, and entitled cucks who want everyone to be wusses and never have their fragile "feelings" hurt. It's like going fucking backwards. We live in a time where everyone has pretty close to equal rights and even privileges, that the tiniest thing makes people scream "DISCRIMINATION".  People fucking rally for their fucking feelings now. Not their rights. They are whiners. It sickens me that people support Clinton who is pretty much throwing their rights in the trash, just because Donald Trump "offended" them. I guess it's hypocritical, but I'm tired of these buzzwords that don't mean shit, even the word "Liberal" has lost it's meaning.

The problem is the writing style tbh.

There's various summaries of it you can find that give a decent overview of the basic concept. I'd say even Wikipedia does okay at it.

I wouldn't say its pretentious so much as it just takes different ideas already developed in Marxist theory and amalgamates them into a narrative meant to be engaging to people with at least some understanding of the terminology. Really even if you don't know anything about that shit you should still be able to get the general idea if you pay attention. Though it's not something meant to be read completely blind.

The first and only time I read it there was a lot of stuff I was lost on, I think It was basic stuff about Hegel and dialectics or whatever, hence I'm well over due to give it another read.

Personally I've always thought that the attempts to give the dialectical concept of alienation a psychoanalytic or phenomenological standing were horseshit. Debord's Spectacle has some good moments, but its attempt to turn commodity fetishism into some all-encompassing fabric of the capitalist system becomes an exercise in idiotic wankery where you stretch the definition of "capitalism" so widely that you start to treat it as some omnipotent metaphysical Satan.

Not to mention the smug feel of showing off how enlightened you are to the normies by yelling "LEL COMMODIFIED SPECTACLE" at their every expression. Not unlike Stirner and the spooks, except that Stirner actually wrote a good work of philosophy and Debord didn't.

I don't recall Debord arguing that commodity fetishism in itself forms the entire fabric of capitalism. It's something more along lines that it has morphed into a sort of umbrella casting a shadow on our surrounding environment and invading every part of life.

In a world dominated by capital it will of course influence every sector of society. Not every institution and human interaction is necessarily a product made possible only by capitalism but they will fall under its influence. Anyone and anything will be in part influenced by the environment they are in. Things like wage work and consumerism are accepted as the norm and practically considered as nature by everyone because it's always been that way as long as long as they can remember and has constantly been reinforced in everything from their education to their entertainment.

We are constantly told that this new cool thing will change will revolutionize our lives when in actuality its just a continuation of the spectacle we are used to. Supposedly the internet has created a better informed populace, while on a personal level you may have used it well to educate yourself on a societal level it's just another mass media that brings everyone into a closer line of ideological thought whilst believing they are actually radically different from each other. Thus we end up with a populace that likes to label themselves as either liberal, conservative, or moderate and thinks this actually means anything. And then you also have a lot of other normal people latching onto inane conspiracy theories because it rationalizes the world in a convenient way for them.

(Edit): I think an interesting phenomenon is how everyone wants to call themselves "rational" and talk about how they supposedly love and understand science. It's like a new way of claiming oneself as being holy and righteous to justify opinions and actions. This sort of thinking seems to be that since we have pop science every where now and people are less religious, that we are free of any sort of dogma and close mindedness and being right and be boiled down to how scientific you claim to be.

I've fucked up wandered off topic greatly. Anyway the point is that "the spectacle" you could say is capitalism at its highest stage and will only expand as long as capitalism exists. Or something like that, idk because I'm not very smart.

Basically this. Trump can't even pull a decent Hitler. I mean he got the Iconic haircut, much as Hitler had the beard. But he has neither the charisma nor the skill. Also Americans are retarded when it comes to nationalism. They are too hasty.
It took some time until Hitler got heard by the masses. And he was only able to get this far because his ... organisations were well established way before they were instituted as governmental functions so they could be present in the Reichstag and frighten the politicians.
